Is Aloudy a text-to-speech (TTS) app?
Yes. Aloudy is a TTS reader: it turns any text into natural speech with neural AI voices and reads it aloud, highlighting each word. Unlike most text-to-speech apps, the voices run on your iPhone, so it works offline.
Can Aloudy read a PDF aloud?
Yes. Open a PDF and Aloudy reads it aloud in its original layout, highlighting the spoken sentence on the page. It also reads EPUB books, Word documents, websites and photos of printed pages.
Does Aloudy really work without internet?
Yes. The voices are neural models that run on your iPhone or iPad. The first time you use a voice it is downloaded once; after that, reading aloud, text recognition and your library work offline, even in airplane mode. Opening a web page or downloading a classic book needs a connection, but once a book is in your library it plays offline.
Can I use Aloudy to learn a language?
Yes. Open any text in the language you’re learning, such as an article, a book, a web page or a scanned page, and listen while each word is highlighted. Slow the voice down to 0.75×, tap a sentence to hear it again, and pick from 32 languages, including natural American and British English.
Is Aloudy free?
Aloudy is free to try with five voices and up to 500 characters per note. Aloudy Pro unlocks unlimited text and all 46 voices, as a monthly plan or a one-time lifetime purchase.
Do my documents get uploaded anywhere?
No. There is no account and no server that receives your text. Speech and text recognition happen on your device, and your library stays there.
Which files can it read?
PDF, EPUB, Word (DOCX), TXT, Markdown, HTML and RTF, plus pasted text, web pages, photos and camera scans of printed pages. You can also pick from more than 70,000 classic public-domain books.
